Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

By Tom Stoppard

ADC Theatre, Cambridge, 27 September – 01 October 2022

“There is an art to the building up of suspense…”

Tom Stoppard’s surreal comic masterpiece, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, comes to the ADC in September.

Listed by The New York Times as one of the top twenty plays ever written, ‘two of the minor characters from Hamlet’ (as Tom Stoppard calls them) take centre stage as their fates are revealed. Hamlet, the King and Queen and Ophelia are here the sub-plot, with the main action ‘off-stage’ as Ros and Guil grapple with a world they no longer understand.

The play at its centre is a humorous and satirical take on whether ‘to be or not to be’ is actually the question, and indeed how you even know when you are not…

Will Males as Rosencrantz and Dan Aspel playing Guildenstern brought pace and deeply felt character to their parts.

Utterly brilliant! Loved every minute of it. And what a wonderful cast!

The most marvellous evening in the theatre. Everything about the production - artistically, aesthetically, technically and creatively was a treat to experience.

I was absorbed, entertained, made to laugh and to think...what more could I ask for a Saturday afternoon?
