The Happy Prince

A new play by Sophie McMahon,
on the story by Oscar Wilde

Our story tells the tale of a Prince whose only claim to fame would seem to be that he was happy. Happy in his palace, happy with his wealth, happy in his ignorance. But once he is up there on his column he cannot help but see the misery and poverty and unhappiness that has always surrounded him. Aided by his new friend, a love-lorn and late to hibernate swallow, he begins to try and make a difference. But at huge cost…

Corkscrew presents a child-friendly version of Oscar Wilde’s old story.

Written by Sophie McMahon for an outdoor audience.
