Both in their twenties, siblings Darcy and Liam are trying to build lives of their own – new jobs, fledgling relationships, and messy weekends. But they are never entirely free. At home, their mother’s mental illness keeps everything precarious, pulling them back into a cycle of crisis, vigilance, and reluctant responsibility.
Living on a kind of emotional fault line, they balance humour with exhaustion, love with frustration, and hope with the constant fear of what might happen next.
With biting humour, tenderness and remarkable honesty, this dark comedy shines a light on the often unseen experiences of young carers and children growing up around mental illness. Full of warmth, wit and recognisable family chaos, Sophie’s new play explores resilience, obligation and the bonds that hold families together — even when everything threatens to fall apart.
